A Day Of Celebration Of Mixed-Race Achievement 2003
The Day Of Celebration Of Mixed-Race Achievement took place at the Rocket, part of London Metropolitan
University on Sunday October19, 2003. It was the first event of its kind in the UK. The event included
a photographic exhibition entitled Interface by Shambhala, poetry, literary readings and music from up
and coming and accomplished mixed-race artists, a Fashion Show and Film showing by Sarah Green entitled
Redeem and the introduction of the Intermix Positive Contribution Awards given to individuals who had
made an outstanding contribution to society.
Families and individuals came from all over the UK to celebrate the mixed-race experience.
Host for the day was Melanie Hill, who stepped in at the last minute after singer Melanie Brown had to
pull out due to another commitment. Actor David Yip had an accident on his way to the event and was unable
to appear. There was also a derailment at Camden Town tube station on the day which made it difficult for
some to get to the event. But in spite of everything the day was a fabulous success.
