Supportive Family And Friends
Don't stay around those individuals and family members who cannot support your multiracial family.
In your everyday life you will come across some people who are especially supportive of your plans to become a multicultural family? Surround yourself with these people!
In addition, seek out other mixed-race families, or multicultural families. You will be surprised by how helpful many people will want to be.
You need a supportive community comprised of many races - those who will be role models and provide inspiration, those who will stimulate your thinking, those who can help fill your desire for cultural diversity, and those who will challenge you in constructive and respectful ways.
If you are somewhat isolated from these people because of where you live, then seek out people in other areas. A telephone call does not cost that much these days and it is surprising how much difference a friendly voice at the end of a telephone can make. Join the Intermix Forum there are thousands of other parents out there wanting to chat.
Your child's school will be one place where you may meet other parents in similar situations to yourself. Don't wait for them to make the first move they may be feeling just as isolated as you. Remember that your children will also benefit from meeting other children like themselves.
