Queensah - Sublime
Can I ever regain the youth they stole?
When they made me feel that I wasn't whole,
Your half and half they said,
Neither here nor there, you'd be better off dead,
Where did I belong?
What did I do wrong?
Mummy, Why don't those people like me?
I've looked in the mirror, I'm pretty, I can see,
But she didn't know, she couldn't say,
There seemed no reason for people to treat me that way,
She wasn't prepared, she didn't know,
What a Mixed-Race child needed to grow,
So I wandered alone in the wilderness,
They say what you never have, you never miss,
I did miss something; I know that I did,
But all those feelings, I kept them well hid,
The years went by and I closed my eyes,
The racism and the bigotry came from all sides,
The struggle to survive with music from my sighs,
Then one day, I stood back and took a long hard look at my life,
Parted the curtains of trouble and strife,
And I saw me for the very first time,
A beautiful Mixed-Race woman,
