'To
help them advance their goals and achieve their dreams.'
Hines Ward has shown the Korean public he intends to ensure that mixed-race
children get the help and support they need by making a private donation
of one million dollars to his new foundation named Hines
Ward Helping Hands Korea. The foundation will be independently operated by Pearl S.
International, a non-profit organization already assisting biracial children.
At a news conference in Seoul,
Hines said the primary goal is to assist biracial children and 'provide
them with resources necessary to help them advance their goals and achieve
their dreams and success of life.'
Hines also added that an additional $1.2 million has been pledged by
Korean individuals and companies including Kia Motors Corp.
Assistance will be in the form of services and materials such as computers,
books, and educational and recreational tools.
Hines also pledged to provide
a scholarship fund named after his mother to individual students 'who
show extraordinary self-sacrifice and hard work for others.'
'This is my small token of my deep appreciation and love for what she
has done for me,' he said.
