Crystal Laugier Crowned Miss Trinidad & Tobago UK.
A twenty-one year-old customer adviser from North-west London has just been crowned Miss Trinidad & Tobago UK 2005. Crystal Laugier who is of Indian, Black, Chinese and Lebanese heritage took the title ahead of thirteen other hopefuls at the pageant on Saturday 20 August at Porchester Hall in West London.
This was the third Miss Trinidad & Tobago UK competition to be held in the UK. The fourteen contestants came from all over the UK and each represented a different area of the islands. Crystal who was born in Trinidad represented the island of Tobago. The competition was open to all women of part or full Trinidadian parentage living in the UK.
Crystal's mother Joan Saliba said as a child Crystal had asked that age old question 'What am I?' after children at school had posed the same question to her. Joan had told Crystal to tell her classmates that she was Callaloo (a Caribbean soup containing a wide variety of ingredients) or cosmopolitan (having elements from all over the world). Apparently it did the trick and Crystal had no more questions.
