If you think that the British National Party were the only
racist political party to gain seats in the last local election you'd
be wrong.
One of the most right wing political parties in Britain had a startling
success in Blackburn. The England First Party won seats in the Meadowhead
and Fernhurst wards.
The England First Party has some
very racist policies as part of its manifesto, it would "stop almost
all immigration into England, increase the departure rate of failed asylum
seekers and usher in a policy of humane voluntary repatriation for other
non-white immigrants". Ban the "marriage between a subject
of non-European descent and an ethnic white". Re-introduce capital
punishment. Make gay bars, websites, advertisements and carnivals illegal
and only allow white footballers born in England to play for the national
squad.
What is more disturbing is that the newly-elected councillor 45 year-old
pub landlord Michael Johnson has an African grandfather. That would make
him mixed-race in our books.
It's a good job his grandparents didn't hold the same views as his right-wing
party otherwise Michael might not have been born. Hmm on second thoughts...
