Actor and governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, made a public apology on Friday for referring to Cubans and Puerto Ricans as naturally passionate, or 'hot' personalities as he put it, because of the mixture of 'black blood' and 'Latino blood' running through their veins.
The comments made during a speechwriting session in March, were captured on a six-minute audiotape and ended up at the Los Angeles Times who printed an article about it on their front page.
In the recording, Schwarzenegger, who is seeking re-election in November under the Republican ticket, is heard speaking with Susan Kennedy, his chief of staff, and his advisers, sharing affection for the legislative style of fellow politician and assemblywoman, Bonnie Garcia, who happens to be mixed race, and is the only Latina woman Republican in the State Legislature.
'I mean Cuban, Puerto Rican, they are all very hot,' Schwarzenegger says on the recording. 'They have the, you know, part of the black blood in them and part of the Latino blood in them that together makes it.'
Following the release of the tape, Schwarzenegger decided to make an open apology to all those offended by his comments.
'Anyone out there that feels offended by those comments, I just want to say I'm sorry, I apologize,' Schwarzenegger said on Friday at a press conference.
Bonnie Garcia, however said that she was not offended by the remarks and 'it was her pleasure to know that the governor recognizes her as being passionate on issues.'
