Funny, Sexy And Deluded

James BrownMike Belgrave, coming to a stage near you.

Mike Belgrave travels the country doing stand-up comedy and has recently returned from the Edinburgh comedy festival.

He has a great love of comedians and was inspired to become one himself after watching Saturday Night Live, the hit US show that showed the talents of such names as Steve Martin, Dan Akroyd and John Belushi.

'I've always admired comedians and when I saw Saturday Night Live on the TV, I thought I want to do that. I can make people laugh.'

Mike was also inspired by such funny men as Ben Elton, Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Lenny Henry and Bill Hicks.

Being of Jamaican and Irish parentage and looking a lot like Naveen Andrews, Mike has a lot of personal stuff to draw upon for his act.

When we asked whether being mixed-race featured in his act he replied:

Yes. I tend to start off with it, because it is on the audience's mind, so I like to get it out of the way before someone shouts out, 'you're that guy off Lost'.

Believe it or not, Mike is also a children's entertainer he says 'Making kids laugh is difficult because they're honest about what they find funny. However the rewards are great when you get a whole room of kids laughing hysterically.'

Mike's pretty busy at the moment and lists his other talents as writer, actor and Music Video Director. He's currently writing and performing for a sketch show every month as well as preparing for his 2nd one hour show and a play for Edinburgh 2007.

'I'm particularly looking into writing and producing comedy shows as well as doing stand up' says Mike. 'Who knows? I've got a hankering to write the follow up to the movie Doc Savage: Man of Bronze. Mainly so I can play his evil brother.'
