Ever been told you look like a famous person? Well now you can
find out if was just another excuse to get your phone number.
Myheritage.com are offering members the chance to find out which celebrity
they look like. MyHeritage.com is one of the world's first services to
apply advanced face recognition technology to personal photos and family
history; and it's free!
Using the same scientific technology that is used to identify terrorists,
the online software will scan your image to determine it is a human face,
it does this by identifying the eyes, apparently human eyes hold very
distinct and identifiable properties and will make up 50% of your celebrity
match.
Next it produces a reduced template of the face where several hundred
parameters are created between various facial elements. Once the ratios
and proportions are established, the software will compare your facial
composition to the celebrities in its database.
It will then compile a list of your top ten matches. Of course it is
limited to how many celebrities it has on its database and some black
users, have expressed disappointment with their white celebrity matches.
In response, MyHeritage has been accepting celebrity requests from the
public to enter into the facial recognition system. Currently, the database
has 8 to 10 facial photos of 4,000 celebrities. But the next update will
bring that number to 6,000, widening the human gene pool in the hopes
of becoming even more accurate.
Although MyHeritage is a website for genealogy research, the Find the
Celebrity in You section of the site has proved to be quite popular and
is alleged to be the 11th most blogged about website in the world, up
there with MySpace.com and YouTube.com.
